After Login laptop display showing black Screen (All Laptops)
A black screen after logging in (but before the desktop loads) is a common Windows issue, and it can be caused by:
-
Corrupted user profile or explorer.exe
-
Display driver issues
-
Fast startup problems
-
External display conflicts
-
Malware or system file corruption
✅ Step-by-Step Fixes for Black Screen After Login (Windows 10/11) (100% fixed by this step)
🔹 Step 1: Try Keyboard Shortcut to Start Explorer
-
On black screen, press:
Ctrl
+Shift
+Esc
→ This should open Task Manager -
Click File > Run new task
-
Type:
explorer.exe
✅ Check “Create this task with admin privileges”
→ Press Enter
If desktop appears: issue was with Explorer not starting.
🔹 Step 2: Boot into Safe Mode
-
Force restart the laptop 3 times (hold power button until shutdown)
-
It should boot into Windows Recovery
-
Go to:
-
Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings
-
Click Restart
-
-
Press
4
orF4
to boot into Safe Mode
If Safe Mode works:
-
Problem is with a startup app, driver, or explorer
🔹 Step 3: Disable Fast Startup
-
Boot into Safe Mode
-
Open Control Panel > Power Options
-
Click Choose what the power buttons do
-
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
-
Uncheck "Turn on fast startup"
-
Save and restart
🔹 Step 4: Check Display Driver
-
Boot into Safe Mode
-
Open Device Manager → Expand Display adapters
-
Right-click your display driver → Uninstall device
-
Restart normally
Windows will reinstall a basic display driver — if screen works, the issue was your GPU driver. Reinstall latest from manufacturer.
🔹 Step 5: Run System File Check
In Safe Mode:
-
Open Command Prompt as Admin
-
Run:
bashsfc /scannow
-
Let it complete and fix issues, then restart.
🔹 Step 6: Create a New User Profile (If Explorer Keeps Failing)
-
In Task Manager > File > Run:
nginxcontrol userpasswords2
-
Create a new local user account
-
Restart and login to new account
-
If it works, your old profile is likely corrupted
🛠Optional: For Persistent Issues
-
Run Malwarebytes to check for infections
-
Perform a System Restore from Recovery mode if it was working earlier
-
As a last resort: Reset your PC (without losing files)
