How to Install Windows 10 Step-by-Step from USB Boot

Installing Windows 10 from a USB drive is one of the most common and effective ways to perform a clean setup. Whether installing it on a new system or replacing an old OS, this guide will walk you through the process.

Requirements:

  • A USB flash drive (at least 8GB)

  • Another computer to create the bootable USB

  • Internet connection (for downloading the ISO)

  • Product key (if not already embedded in BIOS)

Step 1: Download Windows 10 ISO

  1. Visit the official Microsoft Windows 10 Download page.

  2. Click on “Download Tool Now” to get the Media Creation Tool.

  3. Run the tool and choose “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC.”

  4. Select language, edition, and architecture (64-bit is most common).

  5. Choose USB flash drive as the media type.

Step 2: Create a Bootable USB

  • After downloading, the tool will automatically format your USB and install the bootable files.

  • Wait until it finishes (takes 10–20 minutes depending on your speed).

Step 3: Change Boot Order in BIOS

  1. Plug the USB drive into the PC where you want to install Windows 10.

  2. Restart the PC and press the key to enter BIOS/UEFI (usually F2, F12, DEL, or ESC).

  3. Navigate to Boot Order and move the USB drive to the top.

  4. Save changes and exit.

 Step 4: Start the Installation

  1. When prompted, press any key to boot from USB.

  2. Choose your language, time, and keyboard layout → Click Next.

  3. Click Install Now.

  4. Enter your Windows product key (or click Skip if it’s embedded).

  5. Accept license terms → Click Next.

 Step 5: Choose Installation Type

  • Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).

  • Choose the partition you want to install Windows on.

    • If doing a clean install, delete all partitions and click New to create a new one.

    • Select the new partition and click Next.

 Step 6: Let Windows Install

  • The system will copy files, install features, and reboot several times.

  • Do not remove the USB until prompted.

 Step 7: Initial Setup (OOBE)

  • Choose region, keyboard layout, and preferences.

  • Sign in with a Microsoft Account or create a local account.

  • Choose privacy settings and complete the setup.

 You’re Done!

Congratulations! Windows 10 is successfully installed. Now proceed to:

  • Activate Windows if it’s not already activated.

  • Install drivers (Windows usually does this automatically).

  • Install essential software and tools.
