How to Install Windows 10 Step-by-Step from USB Boot
Installing Windows 10 from a USB drive is one of the most common and effective ways to perform a clean setup. Whether installing it on a new system or replacing an old OS, this guide will walk you through the process.
Requirements:
-
A USB flash drive (at least 8GB)
-
Another computer to create the bootable USB
-
Internet connection (for downloading the ISO)
-
Product key (if not already embedded in BIOS)
Step 1: Download Windows 10 ISO
-
Visit the official Microsoft Windows 10 Download page.
-
Click on “Download Tool Now” to get the Media Creation Tool.
-
Run the tool and choose “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC.”
-
Select language, edition, and architecture (64-bit is most common).
-
Choose USB flash drive as the media type.
Step 2: Create a Bootable USB
-
After downloading, the tool will automatically format your USB and install the bootable files.
-
Wait until it finishes (takes 10–20 minutes depending on your speed).
Step 3: Change Boot Order in BIOS
-
Plug the USB drive into the PC where you want to install Windows 10.
-
Restart the PC and press the key to enter BIOS/UEFI (usually F2, F12, DEL, or ESC).
-
Navigate to Boot Order and move the USB drive to the top.
-
Save changes and exit.
Step 4: Start the Installation
-
When prompted, press any key to boot from USB.
-
Choose your language, time, and keyboard layout → Click Next.
-
Click Install Now.
-
Enter your Windows product key (or click Skip if it’s embedded).
-
Accept license terms → Click Next.
Step 5: Choose Installation Type
-
Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
-
Choose the partition you want to install Windows on.
-
If doing a clean install, delete all partitions and click New to create a new one.
-
Select the new partition and click Next.
-
Step 6: Let Windows Install
-
The system will copy files, install features, and reboot several times.
-
Do not remove the USB until prompted.
Step 7: Initial Setup (OOBE)
-
Choose region, keyboard layout, and preferences.
-
Sign in with a Microsoft Account or create a local account.
-
Choose privacy settings and complete the setup.
You’re Done!
