-
Philips screwdriver
-
Thermal paste (e.g., Arctic MX-4 or Noctua NT-H1)

Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) + lint-free cloth
-
Anti-static strap (optional but recommended)
-
Your replacement CPU: Intel i7-4800MQ
-
USB drive (for BIOS update if needed)
๐งฑ Step 2: Update BIOS to Latest Version
Why: Ensures support for newer CPUs like the i7-4800MQ.
How to Update:
-
Download the latest BIOS (currently A27).

-
Disconnect CPU fan connector.
-
Unscrew heatsink screws in numbered order (usually 1–2–3–4).
-
Carefully lift off the heatsink.
-
Clean thermal paste from old CPU and heatsink using alcohol and cloth.
-
Use a flat screwdriver to turn the CPU socket screw counterclockwise (marked with a lock icon).
-
Gently lift out the i5 CPU.
๐ง Step 5: Install the New CPU (i7-4800MQ)
-
Align the notch on the i7 CPU with the socket.
-
Carefully place the CPU in the socket (don’t force it).
-
Turn the socket screw clockwise to lock.
-
Apply a small pea-sized dot of thermal paste in the center of the CPU.
-
Place the heatsink back, aligning screws with the markings.
-
Screw them back in crisscross pattern (1–3–2–4).
-
Reconnect the fan cable.
๐ Step 6: Reassemble and Reset BIOS

Windows may take a few seconds longer on the first boot.
-
Let Windows detect the new CPU (no driver needed).
-
Open Task Manager → Performance tab → CPU
✅ You should now see: Intel Core i7-4800MQ, 4 cores, 8 threads.
๐ Step 8: Optional Checks
-
Run
msinfo32
ordxdiag
to confirm CPU. -
Monitor temperatures using HWMonitor or Core Temp.
-
Stress test with Cinebench R23 or AIDA64 (optional).
๐งผ Notes:
-
Make sure airflow is clear — clean vents and fans.
-
You can upgrade RAM and storage while you’re inside if needed.
-
No reactivation of Windows is required unless motherboard is changed.
